EDITORIAL Is Germany a winner after all? Dear readers, A few weeks may have passed since the World Cup in Russia and although the German team got kicked out far too early, the event certainly benefitted the German economy thanks to a surge of additional contracts. According to details provided by the German/Russian chamber of foreign trade, around fifty companies were involved in modernizing the infrastructure, assisting with preparations, and maintaining the premises where the events were staged for the World Cup. The chamber of foreign trade estimates that the contract value is around EUR 3 billion. Large companies, like Siemens and Bosch, were also involved and provided safety equipment, as well as air conditioning and heating units. The Bosch team, for example, installed a video monitoring system at one of the World Cup venues. However, even once all of the orders relating to the 2018 World Cup have been completed, numerous economic experts are certain that the modernization of hotels and apartments will continue. The World Cup attracted a lot of tourists from home and abroad. To ensure that Moscow remains an attractive destination for domestic and foreign investments, as well as company relocations, the local government has already been investing in a renovation program since 2017. However, it remains to be seen to what extent German companies will benefit from this. German and Russian companies will have an excellent opportunity to discuss future cooperations at Cemat Russia. A spin-off of Cemat in Hanover, the annual trade fair for conveying equipment, warehouse technology, and logistics has become well established on the Russian market. Cemat Russia is also an excellent platform for Russia to extend its potential in the transport and logistics sector.
